The present day Pan Am Railways consists of the former so called Guilford Rail System. It's a holding company which owns and comprises the former railroad companies Boston and Maine Corporation, Maine Central Railroad Company, Portland Terminal Company and Springfield Terminal Railway Company.
This Pan Am Railways locomotive no.506 is an old GP-40 2L which was previously owned by Canadian National CN. This is one of the machines purchased from General Motors in 1973-75. Here we see it heavily modernised, with for example a totally new driver's cab.
