Step 1) Select the two letter codes from those categories in each of the three tiers that best represent the page you are categorizing.

Step 2) Type the chosen two letter codes into the categorization label box immediately following iics.  For example, a page that contains information and pictures on treating sport's injuries would be categorized iicsinmespvi.

Step 3) To include the copyright status of your page select the option that applies and type in the two digit code at the end of the categorization label.   For instance, using the previous example and adding Use With Attribution would result in the categorization of iicsinmespvi03.

Step 4) Copy the categorization label and paste it at the bottom of the page being categorized.

Step 5) To make the categorization label apply to the entire site or a portion thereof (online description) , simply add an exclamation point ( !) at the end of the categorization label.  For example, iicsinmespvi! would now be the default categorization for an entire web site or group of pages rather than a single page.

NOTE: New tools for categorization will be available shortly which will further simplify the process including a fully interactive interface that will automatically enter the categorization code upon selection.

Important information: As described in the IICS Manual and online in High Quality Searches and Community of Shared Interests , searchers will be able to find pages that have been categorized to the IICS through the use of search engines that have scanned their sites.  However, the ! feature will not become effective immediately so it is recommended that each page be individually categorized during this initial period.
