Where Are You Client/Server Administrative Installation,
Version 4.0.9

Installation of the WhereRU application is in two parts.
The System Administrator or other person responsible for
installing applications onto a network server accomplishes
the first part. Each individual user of WhereRU must then
accomplish the second part by installing the WhereRU program
itself to their PC.

To install the WhereRU Server and associated files onto your
network server follow the steps below:

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Upgrading from a version of WhereRU
prior to 4.0.0. DO NOT install this version of WhereRU
into the same folder as your current WhereRU network
files. Install this version to a new location.

Version 4.0.0 of WhereRU implements a new format for
the data files. Once the Administrator has done the
administrative install they must run the WhereRU Admin
program once. This will update your data files to the
new format (no data will be lost). The new format is NOT
compatible with previous versions of WhereRU. All users
MUST install this new version before they will be able
    to run WhereRU.

If upgrading you should copy (not move) the existing
WhereRU data files from their current location to the
    new \\<servername>\Program Files\WhereRUServer\Data
folder. Then when the WRUAdmin program is run the first
time it will find these files and automatically upgrade
them. Don't delete the old files until you are sure you
want to continue using the this new version of WhereRU.

1. If you received this file as a single zip file then
extract the contents of this compressed file to a temporary
directory on the PC that you wish to use as the WhereRU
Server. If you received this on diskettes then go to the
next step.

2. Run the Setup.exe installation program either from the
temporary directory or from diskette 1. When asked for the
installation directory specify the location that you want to
install the WhereRU Server to, the default is
\\<servername>\Program Files\WhereRUServer. This setup
installs WhereRU Server (WRUSrvr) files, the user setup
files and creates the data directory and installs the
WhereRU Administration program (WRUAdmin).

3. If upgrading, copy your current data files (*.DAT,
*.IDX) to the new \\<servername>\Program
Files\WhereRUServer\Data folder. Copy your current
registration certificate (WRUCert.lic) from the current
WhereRU\Data folder to the new \\<servername>\Program
Files\WhereRUServer\Admin folder.

4. Now you must decide whether to run the WhereRU Server as
a normal application or, if running on a Windows NT or 2000
PC, to run the server as a service. If run as an
application then all you need to do is create a shortcut to
WRUSrvr.exe in the Startup group of the PC. To run as an
application a user MUST be logged into the Windows server at
all times. To install as a Windows NT/2000 service run the
instsrvc.bat file located in the \\<servername>\Program
Files\WhereRUServer folder. Running as a service has the
advantage that the service will run even when there is no
one logged into the NT/2000 PC. The WRUSrvr program MUST be
running for the client program to connect to it. To
uninstall the WhereRU server as a service run the
uninstsvc.bat file located in the \\<servername>\Program
Files\WhereRUServer folder.

5. Before you can run the WhereRU program you must run the
WRUAdmin program and configure the server and add the names of
the people who will be using this program. This program creates
the data files in the \\<servername>\Program
Files\WhereRUServer\Data directory if they are not already
present. When the WRUAdmin program is first run it will ask you
for the Host Name or IP address of the computer where the WRUSrvr
program is running as well as the Port and Admin Port used by
TCP/IP to connect to that computer.

** NOTE the default ports have changed. The default port # is
now 12005. The default Admin port is 12006.

You will also need to enter the Database Path where the data
files will be created or currently are located, if upgrading.
This is normally \\<servername>\Program Files\WhereRUServer\Data.
WhereRU will start in trial mode, if you are upgrading you should
run the Register procedure in the WRUAdmin program under
Help\Registration. This will load your current WRUCert.lic
registration certificate into WhereRU. If you are upgrading from
a version prior to 4.0.0 it will still setup as a 30-day Trial
version but will eliminate the 25 user restriction. Version 4
requires that you purchase an upgrade to continue to use the
program.

NOTE: To change the default ports that the WhereRU Server
listens on you may use an .INI file to specify these
parameters for the server. See the WRUADMIN.HLP file for
more details.

6. You should now copy the Client setup files located in
the \\<servername>\Program Files\WhereRUServer\Client folder
to a location that all users can access. After you have
added the users into the data tables you can then notify
each user and have them each run the Setup.exe program
located in that folder. You will need to supply them with
the Host Name or IP address that you enterd in 4 above as
well as the Port number. They don't need the Admin Port or
Database Path to install the client. Note: See Upgrading
above.

NOTE: Make sure ALL users upgrade to this version of WhereRU
before running the program. The newest version of the database engine used is not compatible with previous versions. If an earlier version of WhereRU tries to connect to the server problems may result. These problems include lockup of the WhereRU Server, and client PC lockup or crash. If this happens you will need to stop and restart the WhereRU Server.

By default, this is a trial version of WhereRU and you are
limited to adding twenty-five (25) users. You are also
limited to 30-days for the trial period. After that, you
must either purchase WhereRU or remove it from your system.
For details on how to purchase and register WhereRU see the
Registration section of the WRUAdmin help file. Once you
have purchased you will need to copy the WRUCert.lic file
that you received when you registered the program into the
\\<servername>\Program Files\WhereRUServer\Admin folder and
run the Register procedure from the WRUAdmin program.

To uninstall the WhereRU program each user should go to
Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and select WhereRU from
the list and click the Add/Remove button. Once all users
have done this, the System Administrator safely uninstall
the server program as a service if that was done, remove any
shortcuts, and delete all of the WhereRU files from the
\\<servername>\Program Files\WhereRUServer folder where they
were placed.
