I'm looking for a hint for the Spellbreaker octagon puzzle.

As I see it, the situation is thus:
There are octagon rooms connected kind of like

       /-\ /-\ /-\
       | | - | | - | |
       \-/ \-/ \-/

        | X | X |

       /-\ /-\ /-\
       | | - | | - | |
       \-/ \-/ \-/

        | X | X |

       /-\ /-\ /-\
       | | - | | - | |
       \-/ \-/ \-/

                        ^
                        |___enter here

(sorry, no ascii artist)
with some restrictions on the exact directions you can go from
certain rooms. Essentially, you can go in any direction exactly
once, and the north direction is wasted entering the puzzle.
The goal is the upper left and must be approached from the east.
In other words, get to the upper-middle room with the west direction
unused, starting with north already gone.

Either I'm mis-stating the puzzle or I'm missing something crucial.
I'm pretty sure it's impossible to do as I just stated it.

Can someone give me a clue as to what I'm missing?

Thanks,
Grey
