- What's tracker legal status ?
tracker is Shareware. If you use it much and feel like it, please send
me some money, or software you've written for the amiga. This is just
a moral obligation, something between you and your conscience. Some
amount like $20 or FF 100 would be fine. (Note that you can still use tracker
without paying anything).

- What is tracker, what do I need to use it ?
tracker is a generic soundtracker player for unix-like machines.
There are more architectures supported all the time. Check the Makefile
for this version. Your machine should be able to produce sounds,
that goes without saying. You also need tunes to play (mod files).
Some are available on nic.funet.fi, for instance.

You will also want to get zoo and lha for your machines.
They should be on nic.funet.fi or aminet.

- When will tracker be able to do such and such ?
- Where can I get the most recent version.
First check on aminet (main site: wuarchive.wustl.edu) in pub/aminet/misc/unix
that you've got tracker most recent version. All recent versions of tracker
do display a version number on startup without argument.

- How about Sparctracker, str32 and other such programs ?
str32 and Sparctracker are actually older, obsolete versions of trackers
redistributed by other people. There exists a simple module player
(called modplay) on silicon graphics that is distinct from my program,
supports MED modules, and is sadly non portable.

- Can I redistribute tracker freely ?
Provided you meet some requirements, yes:
* no commercial redistribution. Associations and distributors that provide
CD Rom at a very low cost can do it without asking. Magazines, and people who
make a living pressing CD Roms should check with me first.
* be sure that you include the FULL distribution, source, documentation et al.
If you want to provide something else, check with me first.
Specifically, it's FORBIDDEN TO REDISTRIBUTE TRACKER AS A STAND-ALONE PROGRAM.
I want to get some credits for it, at least.

- I've got problems compiling tracker.
Read the INSTALL file.

- What is ppunpack ?
It's a small utility provided with tracker to unpack PowerPacker packed files.
Some modules come in that format, hence it seemed a good idea to package it
with tracker.
It lives in its separate directory, and compiling should be straightforward.
To know when you need it: PowerPacked files normally have PP20 as a magic
number.
Note that ppunpack has distinct redistribution conditions from tracker.
Thanks to Francois Nico for allowing me to redistribute ppunpack.
