The split pieces are all 512k (524288 bytes) long (except for the last piece) and must be transfered in binary mode. You will find it useful to turn off interactive prompting in ftp (start ftp with the -i option or use the "prompt" command) and use the "mget" command to retrieve the files. After transferring all of the files, please read the release notes for information on how to extract and build the software. If you are getting the MIT core distribution, you would do well to also get and apply all public fixes before you build it.
